Das Fortuna Sittard Stadion, die Heimat des gleichnamigen niederländischen Zweiligisten, liegt in einem Gewerbegebiet am Satdtrand der Kleinstadt. Die Namen der umliegenden Straßen klingen nach großer weiter Welt, sie heißen z.B. Parijsboulevard oder Barcelonastraat. Unter der Fantribüne befindet sich ein Aldi Supermarkt.
Die Ende der 60er Jahre durch die Fusion zweier Vereine gegründete Fortuna Sittard Combinatie erreichte in den 80ern immerhin einmal das Viertelfinale im Europapokal der Pokalsieger. Bis 2002 spielte man fast duchgehend in der Eeredivisie.
An diesem Frühlingsabend heisst die Wirklichkeit zweite Liga bzw. Eerste Divisie und der Gegner FC Den Bosch. Die Fortuna ist Tabellenzweiter hinter der nicht aufstiegsberechtigten zweiten Mannschaft von Ajax. Der erstmalige Wiederaufstieg seit 15 Jahren ist zum Greifen nah. Dementsprechend gut ist die Stimmung und groß der Andrang. Es kommen über 8.000 Zuschauer. Das Stadion ist zu zwei Dritteln gefüllt. Der Support ist gut und abwechslungsreich. Fortuna lässt nichts anbrennen und gewinnt souverän mit 2-0. Auch die letzten beiden Spiele werden gewonnen und die FSC steigt tatsächlich direkt auf.

The „Fortuna Sittard Stadion“ is home of the second rate football club of the same name. It’s located within industrial estate at the edge of the town. the names of nearby streets sound much like the big, wide world with names like „Parijsboulevard“ or „Barcelonastraat“. Below the fan stand there’s an Aldi-supermarket.
Fortuna Sittard Combinatie, which was founded in the 60s through the fusion of two other clubs, at least reached the quarterfinals of the Champion’s league once in the 80s. Until 2002, the club played in the Eredivisie almost continuously.
This spring night, Fortuna Sittard faces opponent FC Den Bosch in the second Dutch division aka Eerste Divisie. Fortuna is second on the table and runner up of Ajax Amsterdam’s second team, which isn’t eligible to play in the first division. Moving back up to play in first division for the first time since 15 years ago is as close as never before within that time span. More than 8,000 visitors are in the stadium, the support is great and well varied. Fortuna plays it cool, beating their opponent 2-0. They end up winning their last two games as well, actually advancing to the first division.
