Grotenburg Stadion, Grotenburg Kampfbahn oder einfach nur Grotenburg… Vor zwanzig Jahren startete der KFC Uerdingen 05 hier in seine vorerst letzte Bundesligasaison. Heute ist Abstiegskampf in der Regionalliga angesagt. Die 05er haben seit zwölf Spielen nicht mehr gewonnen, gefühlte 7 Grad, Regen, zu Gast ist die Zweitvertretung des VFL Bochum. Immerhin 1.400 Zuschauer wollen das Spiel des 13ten gegen den 17ten sehen. Es gibt Bratwurst vom Holzkohlegrill und Alt vom Fass. Das Spiel bietet Magerkost. Der KFC drückt ohne klare Chancen herauszuspielen, der VFL geht überraschend in Führung, der Heimmanschaft gelingt noch vor der Pause der Ausgleich. Das wars. Die Uerdinger gewinnen bis zum Saisonende nur noch ein Spiel und steigen ab.

Today, they are fighting for staying in fourth division, the „Regionalliga“. The team hasn’t won a single one of their last twelve games. It’s raining and feels like 7 degrees. Today’s guest is the VFL Bochum’s second team, 1,400 visitors have come to see this match between the 13th and 17th place of the league. Though the game itself is boring, at least the food is good, as there’s Bratwurst from the charcoal grill and draught beer. KFC Uerdingen creates pressure without creating major chances while Bochum manages to score surprisingly, taking an early lead. The home team comes back however, scoring the equalizer before the end of the first half. That’s it. Until the end of the season, KFC Uerdingen goes on to win only one more game, causing them to move down to fifth division.
