Festtags Stimmung an diesem Donnerstag Abend vor dem ersten Europapokal Spiel des FC seit fünf Jahren, einem Play-Off Hinspiel der Europa Conference League gegen den Féhervár FC aus Ungarn. Die Fans sind dem Aufruf der Ultras »Alle in Rot« mehrheitlich gefolgt, die Tribünen leuchten in Rot. Viele tragen ein T-Shirt mit der Aufschrift »Europa Auffressen«, das von Fans vor dem Spiel verkauft wird. Die vom ganzen Stadion gesungenen Hymnen »In unserm Veedel« und »Mer stonn zo dir« sind beeindruckend.
Das Spiel läuft zunächst nach Plan, die Heimmannschaft spielt druckvoll und geht verdient in Führung. Ein Platzverweis gegen Köln ändert das Spiel, die Ungarn können das Spiel binnen weniger Minuten mit zwei Toren drehen. In der zweiten Halbzeit gelingt dem FC in Unterzahl trotz großem Kampf, überlegenem Spiel und lautstarker Unterstützung von den Rängen kein Treffer mehr. Das Spiel geht 1-2 verloren. Die Spieler aus Székesféhervár feiern mit ihren Fans; sehr zum Missfallen des Heimpublikums.
It’s a festive atmosphere as Cologne hosts its first international game in five years, taking on the Hungarian Féhervár football club for a Europa Conference league playoff game on a Thursday night. The majority of the fans in the stadium tonight followed the red dress code set by the clubs ultras as the stands glow in red. Many supporters wear a shirt that says „Europa auffressen“(which can be translated to „devour Europe“) and is sold by supporters prior to kickoff. The traditional hymns „In unserm Veedel“ and „Mer stonn zo dir“ sound impressive sung by the whole stadium.
The game goes according to plan for Cologne at first as they manage to go up 1-0 early thanks to their aggressive playing style. The tide soon turns on them however as one of their players is sent off with a red card, enabling Féhervár to score two goals in quick succession to take the lead. Despite a hard-fought and dominating second half performance by the home team, who receive loud support by their supporters in the stands throughout, they don’t manage to score another goal, causing them to lose the game 1-2. The guests from Székesféhervár and their supporters get to celebrate together, much to the displeasure of the Cologne supporters still in the stadium.
