Wuppertaler SV – Alemannia Aachen

More than 3000 visitors are in attendance for tonights fourth division match in Wuppertal under summery weather conditions, with roughly 1000 coming from Aachen to support the away team. The atmosphere is as relaxed as the game is eventless with the Wuppertal fans failing in their attempt to light a spark in their team using pyrotechnics. Toward the end however, the game takes up some heat as Aachen starts playing more aggressively amid loud support from the stands. When they finally do manage to score, the goal gets taken back due to an alleged offside position, causing the game to end in a 0-0 draw.

Cesare first attended the Niederrheinstadion in Oberhausen at the young age of six. Reminiscing about past seasons at the end of which his team was promoted, he says „The next promotion’s due in two years a the latest.“

Both Gerd and Hans-Jürgen have been season ticket holders for the past ten years. Gerd’s personal highlight as a supporter was RWO’s promotion to the Bundesliga in the 1968/69 season.

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen – Borussia Mönchengladbach II
Stadion Niederrhein

As the season kicks off again at the end of a long winter break, Rot Weiß Oberhausen, RWO for short, play Borussia Mönchengladbach’s under 21s. Well over 2000 spectators have come to watch today’s game at the local Niederrhein Stadion on this foggy saturday afternoon, where a newly constructed supporter’s stand at the southern end of the stadium right behind the goal now replaces the old and traditional „Emscher Kurve“, which was originally located further away from the pitch. The reconstruction has a substantial positive effect on the atmosphere, enabling supporters to create pressure much more effectively. As a result, RWO supporters get to celebrate as the home side comfortably wins the game by three goals to nil, sustaining their hopes of promotion.
