Kurt, Borussia Park

Kurt has been a Borussia Mönchengladbach supporter for years, though he’s only been experiencing the games from outside of the stadium for a while now, collecting bottles for deposit.

Paris Red Star is one of France’s oldest football clubs. One of its four funding fathers was Jules Rimet, who is also one of the founding members of the World Cup, naming its former trophy as well. the club has a long history of three domestic cup wins and numerous years of playing in first division. At the moment however, the team has to settle for playing in the French third division, the „National“.
On this cold friday night, Red Star Paris takes on its local rival Paris FC at home in the revered „Stade Bauer“ in Saint-Ouen, two bus stops north of the „Porte de Clignancourt“ in northern Paris. Around 1,200 spectators are in the stadium to watch tonight’s battle against relegation in the shadow of a stairway-formed skyscraper.
The club is particularly proud of  its tradition as a worker’s association and of one of their members having been a French Résistance fighter called Rino della Negra, who was murdered by the Nazis. There are several bouquets of flowers at the cash desks tonight to remind of the anniversary of his death. Whether this is a coincidence or not, one of tonights chants – my personal favorite – is a Paris Red Star chant sung in the melody of Bella Ciao.

Red Star is clearly the better side, deservedly leading 1-0 at the break. Since the only things sold at the stadium are spicy sausages warmed up in the microwave and non-alcoholic beer, many spectators prefer going to a pub called „l’Olympic“ right acroos the street, where you can buy bottled Heineken. The final score is 2-0.

It only takes Jörg a record beating 2 minutes to get from his couch all the way to the stand. He’s been an active AS Eupen supporter since 20 years ago and has infected his buddy Thomas by now, who he regularly goes to the stadium with, only having missed a few of last season’s home games.
