Rainer ist direkt von der Arbeit zum Spiel gekommen. Er trägt bei der Arbeit Krawatte und immer diese, wenn Alemannia Aachen spielt. Rainer came straight from work to see todays game. He routinely wears a tie to work and this particular one is reserved fordays where Aachen games take place.
Katharina unterstützt die Alemannia schon seit langem. Sie hat eine Dauerkarte für den Tivoli. Heute ist sie aus der nahen Eschweiler Innenstadt gekommen um bei diesem Vorbereitungsspiel gegen den VFR Aalen den Kader für die neue Saison schon mal in Augenschein zu nehmen. Alemannia gewinnt 2-0 und hinterlässt einen guten Eindruck. Katharina, a long time Alemannia Aachen supporter, is a season ticket holder. Having come out from the nearby town of Eschweiler, she plans to watch todays preseason match to see how the new roster for this upcoming season performs. Alemannia Aachen manages to impress en route to a 2-0 winning effort.
Am Wochenende wurde das erste Fotografie-Festival der StädteRegion Aachen eröffnet. Über vier Wochen lang werden an vielen spannenden Orten in Aachen und in der Region circa 500 Fotografien in 16 Ausstellungen zu sehen sein. Das Motto dieses Festivals ist Allianzen. In diesem Zusammenhang zeigt die Galerie S. Fotos von Matin Parr und mir unter dem Titel Fußballfans & Royal Parties. Galerie S., Im Hof 3, 52062 Aachen, gleich neben dem Domkeller. Die Ausstellung ist vom 29.8. bis 26.9. jeweils Freitag – Sonntag 14 – 18 Uhr geöffnet.

Karnevalssamstag. Am 23. Spieltag der Fußball Bundesliga empfängt der SC Freiburg Fortuna Düsseldorf bei herrlichem Vorfrühlingswetter. Das Stadion ist stadtnah in einem Wohngebiet gelegen. Wenn alles nach Plan läuft, ist es das siebtletzte Heimspiel im ehemaligen Dreisamstadion, bevor der SC in eine neue Arena umzieht. Die Stimmung ist entspannt. Viele Fans kommen kostümiert. An der Wurstbude vor dem Stadion gibt es Freiburger Lange Rote — geknickt, damit sie besser ins Brötchen passt. Alternativ kann man auch Merguez bestellen. Frankreich ist nah. Als Bier wird leckeres Tannenzäpfle ausgeschenkt, vereinzelt sehen wir aber auch Zuschauer mit Weingläsern. The many, costume wearing spectators in the stadium make for a relaxed atmosphere. The sausage is broken over in the middle in order to better fit in the bun with which it is commonly served. The French influence on the Region is illustrated by the fact that you can alternatively acquire Merguez sausages. And even though the stand serves tasty „Tannenzäpfle“ beer, many local spectators seem to opt to drink wine instead.
Im ausverkauften Stadion steht man wunderbar nah am Spielfeld, mit Blick auf die Ausläufer des Schwarzwalds direkt dahinter. Die Stimmung bleibt trotz des mäßigen Spiels freundlich. Die Anfeuerungen kommen fast ausschließlich von der gegenüberliegenden Nordtribüne. Fortuna gewinnt 2 – 0, und man hat den Eindruck, dass der SC noch Stunden spielen könnte ohne ein Tor zu schießen. The southern stand of the sold out stadium provides us with an excellent view on the game, as well as on parts of the black forest behind the stadium, being located exceptionally close to the pitch. With only a few minor exceptions, the atmosphere is almost exclusively created in the northern stand and stays modest throughout the game, in spite of a less than satisfying performance from the home side, who concede a 2 – 0 loss to the visitors and could seemingly play on for hours on end and not score a single goal.
Alfred und sein Sohn Frank gehen immer zusammen zur Fortuna, gelegentlich auch auswärts. Alfred ist schon seit 1970 Fan und war beim legendären Europapokal Endspiel in Basel mit dabei. Sein Kaftan ist original aus Marokko. Frank ist untröstlich, dass er den Schnäuzer zu seinem Kostüm zu Hause vergessen hat. Alfred and his son Frank regularly visit Fortuna Düsseldorf’s games together, occasionally watching away games as well. Having supported his club since 1970, Alfred even got to witness Düsseldorf’s legendary European Cup Winner’s Cup final against Barcelona in 1979 live in Basel. Today, he’s wearing a Moroccan caftan. Meanwhile, Frank is inconsolable about having left his fake moustache to go along with his costume at home.
Rolf ist gebürtiger Düsseldorfer, wohnt aber schon lange in Kassel. Normalerweise fährt er an Karneval immer nach Düsseldorf zum Feiern. Dieses Jahr besucht er in Freiburg seinen Sohn — und die Fortuna. Rolf was born in Düsseldorf but has since moved to Kassel, where he’s now been living for a long time. Though he usually still goes back to Düsseldorf annually to celebrate carnival, he’s making an exception this year by instead visiting his son in Freiburg, as well as of course Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Peter aus Rottweil ist seit 17 Jahren Anhänger der Fortuna und, wie er sagt, ihr offiziell weitgereistester Fan. Heute ist er mit seinem Freund Sebastian gekommen, der Mitglied beim SCF ist. According to himself, long time Fortuna Düsseldorf supporter Peter from the town of Rottweil is officially his club’s farthest traveling supporter. He’s watching today’s game along with his good friend Sebastian, who’s an SC Freiburg club member.
Nathy und Marco nutzen die Auswärtsfahrt für ein schönes Wochenende in Freiburg. Nathy and Marco are utilizing their away trip to enjoy a leisurely weekend in Freiburg together.
Tobi ist regelmäßiger Besucher der Heimspiele des SC Freiburg. Seine Freunde aus dem Karnevalsverein Käpelli Baschi aus dem nahen Malterdingen sind nur ausnahmsweise mit dabei. Tobi is an SC Freiburg regular who’s making an exception by bringing along his buddies from a carnival society called „Käpelli Baschi“, located in the nearby town of Malterdingen.
Heike hat den Schal selbst online in Auftrag gegeben, angelehnt an das Trikot aus der Saison 17/18. Der Fuchs, genannt Füchsle, ist das Maskottchen des SC Freiburg. Dazu trägt sie ein Trikot und die Hose ihres Karnevalsvereins. Inspired by Freiburg’s away jersey from the 2017/18 season, Heike used an online „customize your scarf“-service to create the scarf she’s wearing in the picture. The fox depicted on the scarf is simultaneously the SC Freiburg’s mascot and is called „Füchsle“. Additionally, she’s wearing a Freiburg jersey, as well as a pair of pants associated with her carnival society.
Auf seinem Trikot hat Falco eine Widmung von Christian Streich. Er ist Zimmermann und war an der Renovierung des Dachstuhls des Freiburger Münsters beteiligt. Als Christian Streich die Baustelle besichtigte, hat Falco die Gelegenheit sofort beim Schopf ergriffen. Falco’s jersey is signed by Freiburg’s manager, Christian Streich. He had met the manager when Streich visited a construction site at the local cathedral that Falco had been working on as a carpenter.
Seit vier Jahren hat Marius eine Dauerkarte. Er trauert um das alte Stadion aber freut sich auch auf das neue. Er ist sich sicher die um die Hälfte größere neue Arena „würde auch in der Zweiten Liga voll werden“. Marius has been a season ticket owner for the past for seasons straight. Although he’s melancholic about his team’s current and familiar home stadium soon being replaced by a new and bigger stadium, he’s certain that Freiburg supporters will always be able to completely fill the new stadium, even if they do happen to ever be relegated to the second tier of German football.
